Unread postby akiralxj » October 7th, 2009, 5:51 pm

Hello, opened up my computer today and internet explorer would open tons of tabs directing me to antivirus sites, firefox would crash. Tried running MalwareBytes but after the install the executable file would be deleted, i tried this multiple times. I ran "root repeal" program from a friends suggestion and it said it detected a mbr rootkit. please help. thanx

Hi akiralxj,

Before we start:

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.

Before we continue please remove the disk (CD or USB) that is in drive F: if one is there.

Please re-open HijackThis and select Scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if present):
