troj.fakeav.bkd and antivirus xp 2010

6 min read

This thread's last reply is from March 23, 2010, 6:29 PM UTC. Software, malware, and removal-tool advice below may be out of date — treat specific steps and download links with caution.

Trend micro keeps reporting that it finds a virus called troj_fakeav.bkd in the directory TROJ_FAKEAV.BKD from C:\Documents and Settings\HelpAssistant\Local Settings\Temp\SbTn.exe but I cant seem to find this. Can someone help me remove this please?

Also, the Antivirus xp 2010 popup keeps comin up. I know its part of the "fakeav" thing but it has not come up till a few days after trend micro found the .bkd.

Also, before I got this virus, whenever I would close the lid to my laptop, I had it set so it would hibernate. But now it stays on the "Preparing to Hibernate" Windows screen for a little, and then after a few minutes goes to the BLUE SCREEN and says "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". There is no other instance that I have come across so far that results in the blue screen.

Here is the HijackThis log:

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal Forums

My handle is shinybeast and I will be assisting you in the removal of malware your computer may have.

Please follow these guidelines as we work to clean your computer.
  • Read through the instructions before you perform them and if you have questions please ask before you perform them. Please do not guess. I will be happy to clarify or explain.
  • Perform all instructions in the order given.
  • Stick with the process until I give you an "all clean." If the symptoms are gone, it does not necessarily mean your computer is safe and secure.
  • Do not run any other tools to remove malware while we are working.
  • If your security software throws up warnings about some of these tools, please allow these tools to run.
  • If you have not done so, please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules and How to get help at this forum where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

Be aware that removing malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before we start.

DDS Scan

  • Please download DDS by sUBs from one of these links and save it to your desktop
    Link1 | Link 2
  • Double-click the file to start the scan
  • A black window will open and run the scan
  • When it finishes, two logs will automatically open with Notepad (DDS.txt and Attach.txt)
  • Save the logs to the desktop using Save As... and post the contents of both in your next reply

Profiles

Click here to download profiles.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click profiles.exe to run the tool
  • After a short time a log should open.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that log in your next post.

Please include both DDS logs (DDS.txt and Attach.txt) and the Profiles log (Prof.txt) in your next reply.
Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.
