Hi BablyB,
I will give you a number of things to do. Just take one at a time.
I am uninstalling utorrent based on our policy. If you like your machine, stay away from P2P programs like that.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove Registry items with HighjackThis. Start HijackThis. On Win7 or Vista, start it with a right click and choose "Run as administrator"
Click Do System Scan Only. When the Scan is complete, Check the following entries:
(Some of these lines may be missing)
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =
O2 - BHO: AskBar BHO - {201f27d4-3704-41d6-89c1-aa35e39143ed} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll
O3 - Toolbar: Ask Toolbar - {3041d03e-fd4b-44e0-b742-2d9b88305f98} - C:\Program Files\AskBarDis\bar\bin\askBar.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BCU] "C:\Program Files\DeviceVM\Browser Configuration Utility\BCU.exe"
O23 - Service: Browser Configuration Utility Service (BCUService) - DeviceVM, Inc. - C:\Program Files\DeviceVM\Browser Configuration Utility\BCUService.exe

Make sure Every other window except HJT is closed (No other tabs showing in the bottom tray), and Click Fix Checked
Click the "X" in the upper right corner of the HiJackThis window to close it.
------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Control Panel, click on Uninstall a program under the Programs heading.
Right click each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, choose Uninstall/Change, and give permission to Continue:
µTorrent
Ask Toolbar
Foxit Reader

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into Keeping the program.
-----------------------------------------------------------
REBOOT(RESTART) Your Machine
----------------------------------------------
NOW....FoxIt must be installed correctly, or the badware ASK toolbar will come with it.

Safely Install the Foxit reader
Download Foxit Reader Setup and Save to your desktop.
Double-click FoxitReader31_enu_Setup.exe on your desktop to start the installation. (On Win7 or Vista, right click and choose "Run as administrator")
Click Next at the Setup screen, Then I Agree to the license.
IMPORTANT ! > At the next screen Click the Custom button. If you choose Default, you will get the ASK toolbar.
Default installation folder is OK. Click Next
Choose whatever desktop settings you want. Having all items checked is OK, but only check the Firefox plug-in if you use Firefox.
Click Next, then Install
Next Screen, IMPORTANT - UNCHECK all three checkboxes for the Foxit Toolbar.
Ignore "warning" about what you are missing, etc.
Click Next.
On the screen Titled "Setup Completed", Uncheck the box to create eBay icons, and click Finish.
After installation, Foxit may request to update. Uncheck the updates and make sure it doesn't. Any update could re-install the ASK toolbar.
----------------------------------------------
Please run HiJackThis again, have it scan and make a log file. Please post the new log.

BablyB,
Please don't Remove, Install, or Scan with anything unless I ask.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Remove Programs Using Control Panel
From Start, Settings, Control Panel or Start, Control Panel, click Add/Remove Programs.
Highlight each Entry, as follows, one by one, if it exists, and choose Remove :

Spybot - Search & Destroy

Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller.
If it asks whether you want to remove all settings, answer YES.
If it reports that it cannot remove all files and settings, that's OK
Later when we are finished cleaning your machine, you can re-install it again if you wish
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Download and Run MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
Please go here to the Download Location, click on Download.
  • After clicking on the download and choosing Save, the "Save to location" dialog will come up.
  • Choose Desktop as the location to save the installer and click Save again.
  • You should now have a desktop icon named mbam-setup.exe. Double-click it.
  • Let it install the program where it wants to, with the default settings, and click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • If necessary, start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again.
  • Once the program is running, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • If it found any malware items. Check all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder... and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location, and post the contents in your reply.
  • The log can also be found using the "Logs" tab in the program. You can click any log listed to open its contents.
  • Recent logs are named by time/date stamp in this format : mbam-log-2010-mm-dd(hour-min-sec).txt
  • You can now delete the installer icon, named mbam-setup.exe from your desktop.

Re: Suspected BCU malware ?

BablyB,
-----------------------------------------------------------
Open Notepad, paste the following code box contents into the text.
Code: Select all
sc stop BCUService
sc config BCUService start= disabled
sc delete BCUService
Use Notepad's File, Save As to save it to your desktop as File type All Files (not as text file or it won't work), and file name FixSvc.bat
Exit Notepad and double click on FixSvc.bat
A Command window will flash on and off.
-----------------------------------------------------------
REBOOT your machine. Sign in to your usual account.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Using HJT, check the following lines and choose Fix Checked.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BCU] "C:\Program Files\DeviceVM\Browser Configuration Utility\BCU.exe"
O23 - Service: Browser Configuration Utility Service (BCUService) - DeviceVM, Inc. - C:\Program Files\DeviceVM\Browser Configuration Utility\BCUService.exe

-----------------------------------------------------------
Folder Deletion
In Windows Explorer (Start, Computer), navigate to the folder shown below, highlight it, if found, and press Delete.

C:\Program Files\DeviceVM\Browser Configuration Utility\ <== this folder only

You may have to first open the folder, and delete all the underlying files and folders before an entire folder can be deleted.
You may have to give permissions at various times to allow the removals
If you need to delete underlying files in a folder and are unable to do so:
Right click the file set for deletion, and check Properties to see if it's read-only. Uncheck the read-only box, click Apply and OK. Then retry Delete.
If a message pops up saying "File in use", or something like that,, note the name of the file, hit Ctrl-Alt-Delete and look under the Processes tab.
If the exact filename is in there, highlight it and click End Process, then retry Delete.
Please Note if you cannot delete, or cannot find.
Let me know how it goes.

BablyB,
Looks good. Nice work.
If you have no more issues, I think you will be good to go.

I would update and do a Quick Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware every week or so.
You do not need any additional anti-spyware programs to keep safe.

Good luck,
