missionariesofcharity.com site - redirected from google

Unread postby carofino » February 18th, 2010, 4:37 am

Yesterday my computer started running really slowly and I had to turn it off without shutting it down. Today it is redirecting me from google search results to casino sites and ebay, via othersites (briefly) eg missionariesofcharity.com/search

Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome to the MR forums. :)

I'm melboy and I am going to try to help you with your problem. Please take note of the following:

  1. I will be working on your Malware issues this may or may not solve other issues you have with your machine.
  2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  3. If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to ask.
  4. Please DO NOT run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you.
  5. It is important that you reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  6. Your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use. Be assured, any links I give are safe.
  7. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.

Please take time to read the Malware Removal Forum Guidelines and Rules where the conditions for receiving help at this forum are explained.

Please be aware that removing Malware is a potentially hazardous undertaking. I will take care not to knowingly suggest courses of action that might damage your computer. However it is impossible for me to foresee all interactions that may happen between the software on your computer and those we'll use to clear you of infection, and I cannot guarantee the safety of your system. It is possible that we might encounter situations where the only recourse is to re-format and re-install your operating system, or to necessitate you taking your computer to a repair shop.

Because of this, I advise you to backup any personal files and folders before you start.
Backing up: What, how, where

random's system information tool (RSIT)

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from HERE and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt (<<will be maximized)
    • info.txt (<<will be minimized)
  • Post both of these logs in your next reply (Sometimes you have to make several post to get the logs posted.)

Gmer

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Double click the .exe file. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO

    Image
Click the image to enlarge it
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file
  • Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and post it in reply
**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

Note: Do not run any programs while Gmer is running.

In your next reply:
  1. RSIT log.txt
  2. RSIT info.txt
  3. GMER log

Hi Melboy

Thanks. I tried to use the Gmer programme but both times it made my computer crash. 1st time it just froze, second time the blue screen came on.

Also, when I run RSIT, only the log is produced, no info file.

And since I downloaded these things, resident shield tells me file is infected: C:\WINDOWS\temp\liph.tmp\svchost.exe

What should I do?

Here is the log file.

Hi

resident shield tells me file is infected: C:\WINDOWS\temp\liph.tmp\svchost.exe

If you are presented with the option, send it to AVG's Virus vault.

Navigate to the folder located on your C: drive:

C:\RSIT

If info.txt is there, please post the contents.

Ignore the instructions for GMER and try these instead.

SysProt AntiRootkit©

Please download SysProt AntiRootkit© by swatkat and save it to your desktop.

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on SysProt.zip under the Attachments section to save the file.
  • Unzip it into a folder on your desktop and enter it, then double click on SysProt.exe to start the program.
  • Go to the Log tab and check (tick) all items listed in the Write to log box.
  • Check Hidden Objects Only at the bottom of the window too.
  • Click on the Create Log button on the bottom right.
  • After a few seconds a new window should appear. Select Scan root drive only and click Start.
  • When completed, you will be prompted showing the location of SysProtLog.txt, which is the same folder SysProt.exe was extracted to.
  • Post the contents of the log in your reply.

Re: missionariesofcharity.com site - redirected from google

Unread postby melboy » February 27th, 2010, 1:38 pm

Hi

Are the re-directions specific to one browser, or do they happen irrespective of which browser you use?

TFC

  • Please download TFC by Old Timer to your desktop,
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
  • Click the Start button in the bottom left of TFC
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.

Note: Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It should not take longer than a couple of minutes , and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Check all items... then click on Remove Selected
  • After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

The log can also be found here:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
    2. Or via the Logs tab when the application is started.

Note: MBAM may ask to reboot your computer so it can continue with the removal process, please do so immediately.
Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Hi, I could used gmer this time, but the black screen keeps disappearing before I have time to copy the text. So I did it a few times and tried to remember what was on the screen each time. This is pretty much it:

Stealth rootkit....
device
user MBR read successfully
kernel: MBR read successfully
user & kernel mbr ok

the other one you asked for:

Hi

How many drives/partitions do you have on this PC?

Run me another MBAM scan, but note the slightly different instructions to last time.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM)

As you have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware installed on your computer. Could you please do a scan using these settings:

  • Open Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Select the Update tab
  • Click Check for Updates
  • After the update have been completed, Select the Scanner tab.
  • Select Perform full scan, then click Scan. (Ensure Drive C: and D: are checked)
  • Click on Start Scan
  • When done, you will be prompted. Click OK. If Items are found, then click on Show Results
  • Check all items except items in the C:\System Volume Information folder... then click on Remove Selected
  • After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

The log can also be found here:
    1. C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
    2. Or via the Logs tab when the application is started.

Hi

What's the make and model of your router?

OTL

Download OTL by OldTimer to your Desktop

  • Double click on the icon to run it.
  • Under the Custom Scan box paste this in

    netsvcs
    %SYSTEMDRIVE%\*.exe
    /md5start
    eventlog.dll
    scecli.dll
    netlogon.dll
    cngaudit.dll
    sceclt.dll
    ntelogon.dll
    logevent.dll
    iaStor.sys
    nvstor.sys
    atapi.sys
    IdeChnDr.sys
    viasraid.sys
    AGP440.sys
    vaxscsi.sys
    nvatabus.sys
    viamraid.sys
    nvata.sys
    nvgts.sys
    iastorv.sys
    ViPrt.sys
    eNetHook.dll
    ahcix86.sys
    KR10N.sys
    nvstor32.sys
    ahcix86s.sys
    nvrd32.sys
    symmpi.sys
    adp3132.sys
    mv61xx.sys
    /md5stop
    %systemroot%\*. /mp /s
    CREATERESTOREPOINT
    %systemroot%\system32\*.dll /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\Tasks\*.job /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\system32\drivers\*.sys /lockedfiles
    %systemroot%\System32\config\*.sav

  • Check the Scan all Users check box (Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so.)
  • Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
  • Click the Run Scan button.
  • When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.
  • Please copy the contents of these files in your next reply.
