Why Do Spammers Do It - Following A Spam Trail

29 October, 2007 | Internet, spam | By: Nellie2

One question I get asked a lot is why do spammers send out so much rubbish.. surely no one will fall for those stupid emails?

Well if you think about it.. you hire a bot net to spam out millions of emails.. you only need a few to respond to get some return on your investment. New users are joining the World Wide Web every day and like it or not… some one somewhere is going to get caught out. If they didn’t then the scummy spammers wouldn’t waste their time with it.

If you have ever wondered what would happen if you did respond to spam… or if you have ever been tempted by what seemed to be a too good to be true (and it probably was) offer. Then Mark Wade did just that. He responded to some spam and followed the transaction trail to the inevitable conclusion.

This is a fascinating and well written article and certainly something to bear in mind as Christmas and thoughts of Christmas shopping draw nearer.
