WINXP SP2 Virus locked kbd and displayed "infected" message (page 2)

My son's PC froze shortly after login and had displayed a pseudo anti-virus popup window claiming he was infected with some malware. He plays some online games and surf's the net. I suspect he installed a bad activeX control. I booted up into safe mode and tried to clear it out. If seems to be working OK again now, but after someone pointed me at this site I thought I would ask you if you thought any further action is needed.
