Cannot remove malware - started with Generic!atr Trojan!

Hello and thank goodness I found this site. I have tried on my own to what I know how to do as I do computer software for a living, but I am out of my league for sure with this infection. I was alerted to the problem first by McAfee for Comcast (its recent, but I cannot find a version number anywhere). Anyways, McAfee found and quarantined the trojan (Generic!atr). I researched it, and found it was too late, as my browser was being redirected all over the place already. I tried removing the trojan completely via McAfee. I immediately went to work to kill any new startup entries via msconfig (found something like dumprep -0 K out of %systemroot% which i disabled), and then tried to clean my PC. I have tried the following to remove my infection(s): -Ad-aware (which cannot auto-update due to the virus blocking it, methinks) via manual update, which found a redirected hostfile entry, but hasnt fixed the problem -Avast! Antivirus boot scan and regular scan, which did not find anything -Trie
