I can't do this, as I can't get a browser to work on my laptop.

Is there anyway, I can copy it to my Scandisk memory stick?

Thanks
Scandisk won't check for malware.

You can copy this to memory stick.

Download Superantispyware (SAS) free home version from here

  • Install it and double-click the icon on your desktop to run it.
  • It will ask if you want to update the program definitions click Yes.
  • Under Configuration and Preferences click the Preferences button.
  • Click the Scanning Control tab.
  • Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked:
  • Close browsers before scanning
  • Scan for tracking cookies
  • Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
  • Please leave the others unchecked.
  • Click the Close button to leave the control center screen.
  • On the main screen under Scan for Harmful Software click Scan your computer.
  • On the left check C:\Fixed Drive.
  • On the right under Complete Scanchoose Perform Complete Scan.
  • Click Next to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
  • After the scan is complete a summary box will appear. Click OK.
  • Make sure everything in the white box has a check next to it then click Next.
  • It will quarantine what it found and if it asks if you want to reboot click Yes.
  • To retrieve the removal information for me please do the following:
  • After reboot double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop
  • Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
  • Under Scanner Logs double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
  • It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
  • Please highlight everything in the notepad then right-click and choose copy.
  • Click close and close again to exit the program.
  • Please paste that information here for me with a new HijackThis log.

Note:Close all other windows and shut down any unnecessary programs.
Hi Shaba

I know you said to start a new hijack this log but I had a message at the end of the scan, telling me that no harmful software was found!

I guess that this is good news but I am hoping that you can point me in the right direction as what do do next.

Many thanks for all your support!
Yes that likely means that there is no malware.

Does that service pack 2 contain service pack 2 only or does it have entire windows installation?
Hi

I am so sorry not to have replied earlier. Illness overtook me I'm afraid.

Anyway, I pretty sure that Windows XP Serivce Pack 2 disc is just an update and not the full Windows. My laptop arrived with Windows already pre-installed.

Do you think that it might be worth my while trying it anyway?

Thanks.
No if it is just an update.

I think that you have two choices.

I can redirect you to some windows forum to see if they can help or you can backup and perform factory reset with acer cd.
If you could direct me to a Windows forum, then that would be great!

I do appreciate all the time and support that you have given me with this problem Shaba.

Best wishes
I recommend this place.
Many thanks!!
