Rather than have you change any security settings, lets run a different tool:


Run Microsoft Safety Scanner

• First please Disable any Antivirus you have active, as shown in This topic.
• Note: Don't forget to re-enable it after the scan.
• Next hold down Control then click on the following link to open a new window to Microsoft Safety Scanner
  
• Click Download Now
• When asked to Run or Save, choose Run. (Unless it's to be run on a different PC)
• OK the User Account Permission or the query "Do you want to run this software".
• If you get a message saying "running this type of program could harm your computer" or similar, just ignore it and tell it to Run anyway.
• Click the box to Accept the license agreement. Click Next.
• Click Next to run the Scan.
• Click the Quick Scan button. (... also Full Scan option)
• Click Next
  
• (If it finds nothing, it will just Exit. It still does create a report file.)
• If it has found anything, check the box titled "Help Remove potentially unwanted software"
• Click Next.
• (The Dialog label will become "Cleaning your computer"). It may take a while.
• After this operation completes, click Finish.
• When removals are complete, it will report through a link, "View detailed results of the scan"
• Clicking the link will popup a report in Notepad.
• Please post the contents of the file in a reply.
• The report file is also saved here: C:\Windows\debug\msert.log

Delfix

Please download delfix and save it to your desktop.

• Right-click on delfix.exe and select " Run as administrator " to run it.
• Check the following boxes then click on Run.
  
  
  • Activate UAC
  • Remove disinfection tools
  • Create registry backup
  • Purge system restore
  • Reset system settings
• All tools we used to clean your computer should be gone now.
• You can now delete any tools/logs we used if they remain on your computer.

Protection Programs
Don't forget to re-enable any protection programs we disabled during your fix.


Create a System Restore Point - W7

The Delfix program has created a new restore point for you, but if you would like one with an easy to remember name, please proceed below. You do not need to take this step.

1. Go to Start > Control Panel... click the System icon in the Control Panel.
2. In the left pane click on System Protection.
3. When the Dialog comes up, click on the System protection tab.
4. Check that the drive letter where Windows is located (usually C:) indicates System protection ON.
   (This indicates System restore is turned ON for the Windows drive).
5. Click the Create button to create a new restore point. In the Name dialog, type a descriptive name (ie “All Clean”) then click Create.
6. You will get a message that the Restore Point was created successfully. Click Close.
7. Click OK and close the System window in the Control Panel.
   < STOP > If you did not successfully complete this step. < STOP > Do not continue with any other steps, post back and let me know!

Backup, Backup, and more Backup


Now that your computer is clean, probably the most important thing you can do is to create a backup plan for your data. All of the Windows systems we support have backup capabilities. These existing programs will allow you to back up your files to an external hard drive, USB drive or CD drive.

Here are links to using the backup programs in the various versions of Windows:

An alternative to backing your files up locally is to back your files up to the cloud, and there are a number of free and paid for services of this type available. These are highly automated and (typically) very user friendly.
