Hello,

No, my printer still isn't working. I tried printing from Notepad, Word. I am actually getting error messages from Word and from the printer. It still says it isn't communicating. In my printer folder, there are now two copies of Dell V505, I guess from when I was playing with it. I tried to print from both and I got the same problem. It also took awhile for the little printer icon in the bottom right corner to come up. I don't know.
Hi :)

OK since the malware side is resolved please carry out my instructions here please, thank you.

Next:

Please navigate to:

Start >> Control Panel >> Printers and Faxes >> right click on each icon for Dell V505 in turn and select Delete and follow the prompts.

Next:

Uninstall your Printer software in Add/Remove, disconnect your Printer then Reboot(restart) your computer.

Next:

Plug in your Printer and Windows should automatically detect it for you and ask for the Installation CD.

If it does not navigate back to the Printers and Faxes folder and under Printer Tasks click on Add a printer.

Follow the instructions in the Add Printer Wizard and at the end select the option Print a Test Page.

Let myself know the outcome please.
Hello again,

I did finally manage to completely install the printer--once I turned of McAfee. I can not print a test page though. I still get the same "can not communicate with printer" message. I checked all of my connections and such. I also scanned a document and had it come up on my computer screen--so somehow there is a connection. I don't know!

On a side note, I would like to tell you that you are amazing being so dedicated to helping people. I can see that you give a lot of your time. That is great. What a blessing you and this entire site are!

Hmmmm no reason why your printer should not be working correctly now, we re-enabled the services and restored the HJT backups which would be moot anyway as we uninstalled completely and then reinstalled.

I suspect the actual original Printer Driver on the installation CD is no longer compatible and requires upgrading.

You can download it directly from Dell here or visit Microsoft Update and check for any updates concerning your Dell V505 AIO Printer.
Hey,

My printer gave the same message after following your instructions. This is what I have been doing: I ordered more RAM, (1.5 GB) I went on the Dell website under their troubleshooting--didn't get anywhere. I ended up calling Dell, they concluded that it is not a hardware problem but a software problem. I am not ready to have them fix it yet. Then I went back on Dell's website and am in the process of downloading any of the recommended downloads and drivers that they said were either urgent or recommended--even though I don't know necessarily what they are. But I have been thinking. My printer was working right up until we deleted the files out of Hijack this. I know this because I was printing off your instructions each time. I know we didn't restore all of file we deleted. Is it possible that there are some more files that need to be restored? I don't really know as you are obviously much more of an expert than me. I don't even know what we were doing.
Hi :)

Did you Restore HJT Backups or not?

Post a new HijackThis log for myself to review as well please. To be honest I have no idea at this point in time why your printer is now not working as no reason it should not be unless it has developed a actual fault.
Yes I did restore the backups that you asked me too.

Here is HJT:

Hi :)

Try this please:

Restore HJT Backup:

  • Open HijackThis
  • Click on View the list of backups
  • Select the following:

    O23 - Service: dldw_device - - C:\WINDOWS\system32\dldwcoms.exe

  • Click on the Restore tab, when prompted with Restore this item? select Yes
  • Close HijackThis and then Reboot(restart) your computer.

All OK, working now?
Yes I was able to print.
I am getting more errors--not responding. I am guessing that is because of my printer. Hope that gets better with the extra RAM.

I won't bug you anymore.

Thank you for your assistance and dedication,

Sincerely,
Not Frusterated Anymore!

Good news indeed! Aye it will be a combination of the fact AIO(All In One)Printers are quite resource intensive and the software associated with them is not particularly good in my humble opinion. Plus the lack of available RAM at the moment, it should improve when you install the upgraded memory modules.

I won't bug you anymore.

Thank you for your assistance and dedication,
I assure your good self you have not been a nuisance in the least and you are very welcome!
As your problems appear to have been resolved,
