Malware called Security Shield

I have a virus on my laptop called Security Shield. I posted a request for help yesterday 3rd February 2011, replied to by NonSuch. I have only used the site once previously, didn't read the posting rules thoroughly, and as my request didn't with the rules, my post was closed. Having refreshed myself with the procedures, I downloaded HiJackThis onto the laptop desktop, however when I attempted to install it onto the hard drive, the virus closed down the install programme and I cannot progress any further. I've copied HiJackThis onto a memory stick, copies it onto the desktop, then ran it from there. However the following error messages appeared "For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domians are in this files, HiJackThis may NOT be able to fix this. If that happens, you need to edit the file yourself. To do this, click Start, Run and type: notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and press Enter. Find the lines(s) HiJackthis reports and
