OK your registry seems to be set up OK, lets see if we can find an alternative reason for the problem with Event Viewer.

  • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
  • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:

:filefind

mmc.exe*

eventvwr.exe

  • Click the Look button to start the scan.
  • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can also be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Looks like everything that should be there is there, and the file MD5 checks appear to be genuine.

Try the following to launch Event Viewer ....

  • Click Start > Run
  • Type mmc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventvwr.msc in the Open: box (note the space between .exe and C:\)
  • Click OK


If Event Viewer runs, please send me the details of the Event I asked about in my earlier post .... viewtopic.php?p=584095#p584095

If Event Viewer doesn't run, are you still getting the same error message ?

Do you have your Windows Install Disk, or did your computer come with Windows pre-installed ?

I tried to run the event viewer again and it displayed the same error message. I dont have a windows install disk. It's pre-installed in my pc...

OK, I want to run a couple of scans, one for your hard drive, and one for your system files, to check that they're OK and functioning correctly.

First

  • Click Start > Computer
  • Right click on your C:\ drive and select Properties
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Under Error Checking click the Check Now button.
  • Click Continue when prompted by UAC.
  • A Window will open, check both of the options ...
    • Automatically fix file system errors.
    • Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
  • Click Start
  • You will get a pop-up window saying, "Windows can't check this disk while it's in use".
  • Click on the Schedule disk check button.


Now reboot your computer.

Disk check will run on boot-up and will attempt to fix any problems it finds. This may take some time so please be patient. When disk check is finished Windows will boot into Normal Mode.

Next

  • Click Start
  • In the Search programs and files box type cmd.exe
  • At the top of the results list find cmd.exe
  • Right click on it and select Run as Administrator (you must do this or the command won't run)
  • A command window will open.
  • Type sfc scannow and hit Enter
  • You should see a line saying Beginning system scan. This may take some time. and in the following lines an indication of how the scan is progressing.
  • Be patient, it takes a while.


System File check will check your system files to make sure they are OK, if it finds any that are faulty it will attempt to replace them from clean copies on the computer, if it can't find a suitable copy it will ask you to load your installation disk. As your machine came with Windows pre-installed you won't have the disk, so just note down the file required and re-boot your computer.

Are your booting problems resolved, and are you able to run Event Viewer now ?

Hello again! Sir, my booting problem is resolved it didnt require me to do anything though. Also tried to run the event viewer again but it still displays the same error.

Try doing the disk check and the system file check anyway, and see if they resolve your event viewer problem.

I did run both the disk check and the system file check again but it didn't resolve the event viewer problem sir. It displayed the same error message when i tried to run it last time. For the system file check i think the command given earlier lacked a slash code (sfc /scannow). Anyway, tried to run it again and this time it gave me this message :

Windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log for example: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

  • Click Start and in the Search programs and files box type Notepad
  • Right click on Notepad.exe at the top of the search results list and select Run as Administrator (you won't be able to open the log file otherwise)
  • Notepad will open.
  • Click on File > Open and navigate to C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
  • You'll have to select All Files from the drop down list at the bottom right corner of the Open dialogue window to view the log file.


Please send me the content of the log.

As it's likely to be large you'll have to save it as a .txt file on your computer (Desktop is a good place to save it to) and attach it to your next post rather than posting it.

I don't see anything in those logs related to anything we've been doing with regard to removing your infection.

Looks to all be related to your Windows Update, particularly with update KB2378111

Looking at your first post to this topic it seems you've been having a lot of trouble with Updates ....

I do not believe this is related to the infection that we have removed from your computer, and that you have other more fundamental issues that need to be resolved.

However, resolving them is outside of the scope of this forum, and outside my experience and training, which is solely related to Malware removal.

Have you tried updating Windows recently, and if so were you successful ?

Please check Windows is up to date now by doing the following .....

  • Click Start
  • In the Search programs and files box type Update
  • Click on Windows Update
  • A Window should open saying whether you are up to date or not.
  • It should also say when your last update was installed.


Let me know if you are up to date or not and what the date of your last update was.
