System Halted! Must power down

Tonight we realized that our desktop PC was powered off. When we started it, instead of the pretty blue screen where you enter your password, this is what we see on a black background and white letters

Type the password and ...
--press <enter> to leave password security enabled.
--press <ctrl><enter> to disable password security.
Enter password:

When I enter our password, it says
incorrect password
Number of unsuccessful password attempts: 3

System halted! Must power down.

First of all could we have a virus

Any help will be greatly appreciated

I can't get past this screen........When we try to restart this is what we get so I can't download anything......

The message is alerting you of an unauthorized person attempting to use your system.

After you shut down and restart the system, the error message continues to be displayed until the correct password is entered.
