Computer Running Slow HELP HJTLog

I'm Blade and I am going to try to help you with your problem. Please take a note of five things.

1. I will start working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
2. The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine
3. The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
4. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
5. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Let's start by looking what kind of programs your comp has eaten.


Generate an Uninstall List

* Open HijackThis
* Click on Open Misc Tools Section
* Click on Open Uninstall Manager
* Click on Save list
* Save it to your Desktop
* Post it on your next reply.

Uninstall following instance thru add/remove programs:
-Internet Explorer Default Page

Navigate to c:\program\files folder and delete if there's folder named as Internet Explorer Default Page.

Start hjt, click do a system scan only, check:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://search.ieplugin.com/q.cgi?q=%s
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O9 - Extra button: SmartShopper - Compare product prices - {3CC3D8FE-F0E0-4dd1-A69A-8C56BCC7BEBF} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocvw.dll
O9 - Extra button: SmartShopper - Compare travel rates - {3CC3D8FE-F0E0-4dd1-A69A-8C56BCC7BEC0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocvw.dll

Close browsers and other windows. Click fix checked.


*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

• Start CCleaner
• On the Windows tab, under Internet Explorer, uncheck Cookies if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
• If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for Cookies is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
• Click on the Options icon at the left side of the window, then click on Advanced.
  deselect
  Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
• Click on the
  Cleaner
  icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
• Caution: It is not recommended that you use the
  Issues feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
• After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Since you're using Limewire I recommend to defrag your hard drive(s). P2P programs cause fragmentation and badly fragmented drive slows computer down.

Post fresh hjt log and tell me whether or not instructions above was helpful.

If slowness appear only while doing something in net then it seems to be connection problem. When I read your opening post I got an idea that computer was slow on everything. So I'm sorry but can't unfortunately help in that case .

However, we can try to remove those two shopper entries using another method.



Download ERUNT
Save it to your desktop. Run and install this program.

In the box that opens ONLY choose
System registry.

Then click OK.

Click save and then go to File > Exit.
This is so the registry can be restored to this point if we need it. It may take a minute. Just let it go until it's done.


Save text below as fix.reg on Notepad (save it as all files (*.*)) on the Desktop.

Doubleclick fix.reg, press Yes and ok.

Let me know if those entries appears after that.

Oh yea, I wanted to tell you, there was an IE folder in my programs but id DID NOT say DEFAULT PAGE so I left it alone. I hope I did the correct thing.

You did right. That other one was most likely Internet Explorer's folder.

Well.. since those two entries are malware I'd remove those as well
