Hi,
I am currently using Norton 360 & Spyware Doctor, but I have been infected with a virus which neither will detect. Please help!

The Virus pops up every time I try to access my file system and whenever I access a web page. It shows the following message:

System Error!
Your computer was infected by unknown trojan.
It's dangerous for your system (crirical files can be lost)!

Click OK to download the antispyware program to clean your system!

IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you are using Windows Vista you must right click on the desktop icon and choose Run as Administrator all tools.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Right-click and choose Run as Administrator SmitfraudFix.exe .
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Disable MS Defender until the computer is clean
Microsoft Defender normally provides real-time protection from spyware, however it may interfere with what we need to do. We will disable it until the machine is clean when it can be re-enabled.

- Open Windows Defender
- Select Tools and then General Settings
- Under Real Time Protection Options uncheck Turn on real-time protection
- Select Save
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process.

Spybot S&D's tea timer normally provides real-time protection from spyware, however it may interfere with what we need to do. We will disable it until the machine is clean when it can be re-enabled.

First step:
  • Right-click the Spybot Icon in the System Tray (looks like a blue/white calendar with a padlock symbol)
  • If you have the new version 1.5, Click once on Resident Protection, then Right click the Spybot icon again and make sure Resident Protection is now Unchecked. The Spybot icon in the System tray should now be now colorless.
  • If you have Version 1.4, Click on Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second step, For Either Version :
  • Open Spybot S&D
  • Click Mode, choose Advanced Mode
  • Go To the bottom of the Vertical Panel on the Left, Click Tools
  • then, also in left panel, click Resident shows a red/white shield.
  • If your firewall raises a question, say OK
  • In the Resident protection status frame, Uncheck the box labeled Resident "Tea-Timer"(Protection of over-all system settings) active
  • OK any prompts.
  • Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
  • Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

FixIEDef.exe
  • Download FixIEDef.exe by ShadowPuterDude to your Desktop.
  • Double-click FixIEDef.exe
    • If running Vista, click OK on the FixIEDef is running as Administrator popup

WARNING: FixIEDef will kill all copies of Internet Explorer and Explorer that are running. The icons and Start Menu on your Desktop will not be visible while FixIEDef is running. This is necessary to remove parts of the infection that would otherwise not be removed. FixIEDef will re-start Explorer at the end of the removal process

FixIEDef will return everything to normal; when it has finished the removal process
  • Click Exit once FixIEDef displays the All Finished message
  • Post the log back here. (You will find it on your desktop)

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.

Run Kaspersky Online AV Scanner
Using Internet Explorer Go to http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/kavwebscan.html and click the Accept button at the end of the page.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
  • Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
  • Allow the ActiveX download if necessary.
  • Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
  • Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
  • Click on "My Computer" and then put the kettle on!
  • When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
  • Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
  • Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.

Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log.

Please disable Windows Defender and fix the lines below.
If you fixed them, they are still there, so i would like you to re-try to remove them in safe mode.

I can't see any firewall in your HijackThis log, so i assume you use windows firewall.

Be sure you will choose one which is compatible with VISTA.

FIREWALL
Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. If you use the Windows Firewall you might think that's sufficient but it only controls one way of the traffic (inbound). Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. It's preferable to install one of the suggested firewalls.

I have noticed these two lines in the HJT log are still present :

Let those 2 lines, they are not bad, and in Vista they do not tend to go away.
We gave it a try in normal and in safe mode so they don't harm if they stay.

Please download OTMoveIt2 and save it to desktop.
  • Double-click OTMoveIt2.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP or Vista then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
