Hi, the last time i had a problem i came here to fix it and it was promptly taken care of and for a good while my computer has been running clean, but now i have a more "interesting" problems:

my computer will sometimes refuse to run programs, crash, and seize up, all without warning and the oddest thing of all, when i try to run the paint program my computer crashes.

Its starting to happen more frequently and i am starting to get worried, any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hi,

Welcome to Malware Removal.

2 antivirus programs are installed on your computer and are actively protecting your computer. This is not recommended as antivirus programs don't complement with each other well. Having 2 antivirus actively protecting your computer may also cause security to be lowered as well, as well as computer crashes.

If you've paid for McAfee Antivirus, you can remove AVG Antivirus. If you've not paid for McAfee, you can choose to keep either McAfee Antivirus or AVG Antivirus.

If you choose to keep McAfee Antivirus, take note that the McAfee subscription will run out and your computer will no longer be protected.

Please post a new HijackThis log after you've removed either McAfee or AVG Antivirus.

In addition, please do the following:

  1. Please download and install CCleaner Slim.
  2. Once installed, double click on the desktop shortcut created.
  3. On the leftmost column, click on Tools.
  4. On the middle column, click on Uninstall.
  5. At the bottom right hand corner, click on the Save to text file... button.
  6. By default, it saves this file to C:\Program Files\CCleaner named install.txt. You may want to save it to your desktop to find it easily. Click Save.
  7. Close CCleaner.


Note: Doing this will not uninstall any programs. It will only produce a log of installed programs on your computer.

Hi,

Step 1

  1. Click on Start > All Programs > CCleaner > CCleaner.
  2. On the Windows tab, leave the default options alone.
  3. On the Applications tab, check (tick) all the boxes except Saved Form Information. This will remove all your saved passwords if you leave this box checked.
  4. Click on the Run Cleaner button at the bottom right hand corner.
  5. Close CCleaner.


Step 2

  1. Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and save it to a convenient location.
  2. Double click on mbam-setup.exe to install it.
  3. Before clicking the Finish button, make sure that these 2 boxes are checked (ticked):
      Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
      Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  4. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware will now check for updates. If your firewall prompts, please allow it. If you can't update it, select the Update tab. Under Update Mirror, select one of the websites and click on Check for Updates.
  5. Select the Scanner tab. Click on Perform full scan, then click on Scan.
  6. Leave the default options as it is and click on Start Scan.
  7. When done, you will be prompted. Click OK, then click on Show Results.
  8. Checked (ticked) all items and click on Remove Selected.
  9. After it has removed the items, Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply. You can also find the log in the Logs tab. The bottom most log is the latest.

If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer. Save it to your desktop.

If you can't download it, please try these 2 alternative sites:

Double click to run it. Follow the prompts. Once done, it will reboot and a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Hi,

The Combofix log looks good.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX from Kaspersky. Click Yes.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Next button.
  4. Click on Scan Settings button.
  5. Select extended under Scan using the following antivirus database:
  6. Check (tick) these boxes under Scan options:
    • Scan Archives
    • Scan Mail Bases
  7. Click OK
  8. Click on My Computer under Please select a target to scan:
  9. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected. Click on Save as text button and save it to your desktop.
  10. Copy and paste this log in your next reply.

Hi,

Update Adobe Reader

  1. Please uninstall Adobe Reader 6.0.1 before installing the latest version by going to Start > Control Panel and double clicking on Add/Remove Programs. Locate Adobe Reader 6.0.1 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  2. Click here to download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
  3. Select your Windows version and click on Download. If you are using Internet Explorer, you will receive prompts. Allow the installation to be ran and it will be installed automatically for you.

    If you are using other browsers, it will prompt you to save a file. Save this file to your desktop and run it to install the latest version of Adobe Reader.
  4. Close your Internet browser and open it again.


Update Java Runtime Environment (JRE)

Your JRE is out of date. The current version is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5.

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel and double click on Add/Remove Programs. Locate Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03 and click on Change/Remove to uninstall it.
  2. Click here to visit Java's website.
  3. Scroll down to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5. Click on Download.
  4. Read through the License Agreement and select Accept License Agreement radio button. The page will refresh.
  5. Click on Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language to download it. Save this to a convenient location.
  6. Run this installation to update your Java.


Install a firewall

Removing McAfee Antivirus removed the firewall as well. Here are some free firewalls to consider.

Please get ONE firewall and install it. Restart the computer for changes to take effect.

Comodo Personal Firewall
Sunbelt Kerio
Sygate Personal Firewall Free

Please post back a new HijackThis log after installing the firewall and updating the programs.

All the programs have been updated liked you asked =] and here is the log, but when i was running online armor it said that dsca.exe, IAANTMon.exe, ScsiAccess.exe, and RAIDmonitor were bad or something along those lines. Do you know what they are and if their bad or not? thanks! =D

Hi,

Those programs, with the exception of RAIDmonitor, listed aren't bad. I'll give a brief description for you.

dsca.exe - It's Dell remote support program. If you don't prefer to bring your Dell computer or laptop down to Dell for repair, you can use this program to contact Dell support team. From there, they will try to troubleshoot your PC.

IAANTMon.exe - Related to Intel. This software replaces the ATA drivers that come with Windows with drivers optimized for desktop PCs using selected Intel chipsets.

ScsiAccess.exe - Comes with either Alcohol 120% CD/DVD burning program or Kodak camera software.

RAIDmonitor - I can't find much information on it. Do you have more details?
