Possible Infection or Hijack

Hi

My PC has slowed to the point where it takes several seconds now to refresh an web page and quite a long time to just log onto the internet. I have done several things to try and disgnose the problem:

Cleaned the hard disk using Windows system tools
Defragmented the hard drive
Removed all memory-resident programmes, especially Automatic Update programmes
Run Ad-Aware and SpyBot
Run ComboFix

Running the last did fix a problem I had with not being able to reveal hidden folders and files but hasn't markedly improved the speed of my PC. If I have several applications running, then it slowly grinds to a very frustrating crawl.

Ad-Aware did reveal 9 infections but could not remove any of them. Their threat rating was very low.
