Hello sidelines,

Did you get help elsewhere while waiting? Run any tools yourself?

Your new HijackThis log is completely different. What problems do you have now?

I'm certainly not an expert, but I have been through this at least once before with the helpers on this site.

I did not get help elsewhere. The tools I have run are Microsoft OneCare, Spybot Search and Destroy and Webroot SpyWare remover, which was loaded on this machine when I inherited it (it's a work machine). I have also repeatedly checked the machine with Computer Associates free online Pest Scan. I have since removed the Webroot SpySweeper software, along with a number of other programs, and performed the disk clean up and defragmented in System Tools, as suggested on this site. Computer Associates free online Pest Scan always seems to find items no other scan seems to find.

Initially I was not able to perform a Windows or One Care update because the automatic updater was turned off (I guess by Vundo 778). I manually removed Vundo 778 in the hijackthis window and in the Registry Editor using the details obtained with the CA online scan. This allowed me to turn the Auto Update back on. Either OneCare or Spybot removed Haxdoor E, I'm not sure which because I didn't run the CA scan between the two, and they each showed unique names for the malicious items they removed. Unfortunately I do not think I loged them.

The machine is at least useable now, but nowhere near satisfactory. It's still slow on redrawing the desktop or any next open window after minimizing or closing the top window. The CA website is still finding the Vundo trojan, although I have no idea if it is what is causing the performance lag.

If it looks all good, I don't want to waste your time. But it's important for this machine to be secure and operate properly. Thank you for the help!

There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.

Unfortunately due to our policy i can't help you.

We are here to help home users, and not business pcs, no matter how small the company is.

There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.


The best option for you is to reformat the pc, and re-install the system, so you are sure it's safe. Since it is a business pc, you must have back-ups. Use those after you re-installed your system.
