My son's computer (he's has been suffering with a bout of malware - not sure where it originated from, likely he "clicked" on something. Anyway, since he got himself into this mess, we are working together to resolve it - and hopefully he's learned (or will learn) something from all this. I cannot boot into safe mode anymore.

I'm posting this from another computer (my laptop in another room).

Can you boot the computer into Normal Mode? If you can't boot into either mode, how far does the computer boot up?

I cannot boot into normal mode either. The computer boots to a black screen that reads, "We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this." Then it discusses power outages and finally gives me the options of starting:
1. Safe mode
2. Safe mode w/ networking
3. Safe mode w/ command prompt
4. Last known good configuration
5. Normal startup

All options lead to "Blue Screen" that starts out, "A problem has been detected and Windows has shut down to protect your computer." At the end is: TECHNICAL INFORMATION: **STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0X7D7FBB28, 0XF789E50C, OXF789E208)

Have you recently installed or uninstalled any software/hardware on that computer?

I have run ccleaner on it at regular intervals.

I don't remember. I'm set to automatically download updates.
