Hi there,

I'm having an absolute nightmare with my computer right now - any reply or assistance would be much appreciated.

Firstly, I have a Ergo laptop with Windows XP, Windows firewall and AVG.

For the past week, everytime I've been on google its been redirecting me to advertising websites. I've also had warning messages "UxTheme.dll was not found".

So it all came to head today (just a week before a really important job interview) when AVG did a virus scan and it detected 67 trojans. AVG told me that 66 of these had been destroyed or contained...it then prompted me to restart my computer. After restarting my computer, I had numorous messages again stating "UxTheme.dll was not found". I was able to log on but all I could see was my wallpaper - no icons were showing. I tried it on safe mode and it was the same on this mode.

I did a system restore and got my windows back but it has not sorted out the problem - AVG did a scan again and again prompted me to restart my computer. I then had the same problem again - No icons, just my wallpaper. So I've restored it again, paused the AVG and at the end of my tether. My friend has directed me to get combofix but I read that you have to be a "professional" to run this. Could anyone help me?

apologies with the long winded email!

Katherine
