Can't get past Windows loader screen before PC reboots

So a couple of months back I could use my PC, which runs XP with SP2 I believe installed. It wasn't 100% smooth, as every couple of days it would crash with blue screens of death. I can't say what caused them, but I did try using avira antivirus, malwarebytes etc to fix, and it got better for a while before eventually turning to the state it's in now.

So currently the furthest I can get on startup is the black Windows XP screen with the logo and loader bar, before it then has a very brief blue screen flash and reboots into the 'We apologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start succesfully' screen with the option of going into Safe Mode / Last known Good Configuration. Whatever option I take, it reboots back to this screen eventually.

I've got 'Avira Rescue Boot 2013' on a CD and can boot off of that, which allows me some access to my files. I can't run DDS as I can't access my desktop, could I download and run it on the avira disk? I do plan to upgrade Windows XP to 7 as the support's died, just want to get it fixed first as I've a fair amount of old things on there and this did occur before MS stopped support for XP as well. Would greatly greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks
If you're running Windows with XP, then Microsoft no longer offers support for that OS, and you should upgrade to a newer OS immediately.

In any case, we too no longer offer support for XP machines .... see ... viewtopic.php?p=560007#p560007
