Computer is slow after Scribd.com download of textbook

After I paid and downloaded an engineering text book from scribd.com my computer is much slower is running background stuff alot. Kapersky said there was adware and phishing but did not even try to fix. I deleted the download but it didnt make any difference. This is my computer for school and I have one more semester before completing my engineering degree. Please help.
